Emmit Fenn taps Vic Mensa for the emotional ballad "Pouring Rain."

Despite finding himself hurling threats at the likes 6ix9ine and Akademiks, Vic Mensa has put aside the bravado for a more subdued take on Emmit Fenn's "Pouring Rain." With Fenn's capable piano chops providing a backdrop, Mensa weaves a powerful narrative, proving his storytelling ability remains among the game's most slept on. "He never knew his son, how to be a man and teach it to his son," raps Vic, "he ain't have a father, that shit come back like karma, he ain't have a job or income tax, he barely knew his mama."

While Fenn doesn't hold it down with a verse, he provides a smooth emotional anchor during the chorus; not only that, but the young talent also held it down on the production end of things. Speaking with Complex, Fenn opened up about working with Vic Mensa on the track. "He explained to me stories from Chicago growing up that he witnessed from multiple friends, and he wanted to combine those stories into verses," says Fenn. "Vic is one of the best storytellers in hip-hop, which he brought to life on this record."
