Bad Boy Records has had an insane run of success over the past 21 years. Nowadays they put out releases from the likes of French Montana and Janelle Monáe, but before that they put out some of the most influential hip-hop records ever made.

Bad Boy Records was founded in 1993 by a lesser-known-at-the-time Sean Combs, who later went by Puff Daddy, P. Diddy and now Diddy.

Combs began his music business experience as an intern at Uptown Records (that's a good bit of motivation for everyone interning out there). However, after becoming an A&R executive he was fired in 1993, prompting him to start Bad Boy Records.

The first two releases on the label came in September of '93. Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready To Die and Craig Mack's Project: Funk Da World were released on the 13th and 20th of September respectively. These two releases initiated a massive run of success for the label. In fact, 22 out of the first 27 releases Bad Boy Records put out are certified platinum, with most of the others hitting gold status.

Today we take a look at the early hits of Bad Boy Records, and the undeniable influence Biggie Smalls had on the label, as well as hip-hop in general.
