Yung Gleesh makes a statement with the simply titled "Gleesh."

Yung Gleesh has returned to the fold with a new mixtape, simply yet effectively titled "Gleesh." Though the Washington rapper has been plagued by controversy in the past, he has once again reverted to his raison d'etre, which is to say making music. In fact, it's been a minute since we've heard from Gleesh, who has kept a low profile this past while. Now, however, he seems ready and willing to stake his claim on the waning SoundCloud wave.

Tonally, the tape is reminiscent of modern-day "SoundCloud rap," with spacey, wandering instrumentals. Vocally, Gleesh keeps the energy high throughout, opting to shout ad-libs with reckless abandon. The tape has a notable rawness to it, as Gleesh delivers aggressive vocals, employing effective use of repetition, like crude nursery rhymes. At once anxiety-inducing and mindlessly turnt-up, Gleesh is a strange journey that struggles to find a demographic; despite that, it reveals a rapper once again rejuvenated.
