In terms of their respective rapping styles, Atlanta's Young Thug and Houston's Trae Tha Truth couldn't be more different. Thugger seems like his mission is usually to explore the various ranges and cadences of his voice, whereas Trae is locked in a deep groove with the beat -- the former is an elusive kick returner, and the latter is a burly fullback. On "Baby," the somewhat-unlikely pair's new collaboration, Thugger handles the majority of the song's vocals while Trae is only unleashed for one show-stopping verse.
Complete with a spritely London On Da Track beat, "Baby" is a slice of soulful, slightly retro Southern hip-hop. Its video is trippy, gothic and codeine-soaked. Let's hope for more heat from this ATL/HOU connection in the future.
