Some legends never die, and West coast duo Tha Dogg Pound have earned a right to be counted among that category. The group, made up of Daz Dillinger and Kurupt, have returned to the game with a brand new single called "The Dissolution Of Marriage." The track, produced by Carlos McSwain and Brody Brown, finds Daz and Kurupt Young Gotti addressing their infidelity and vowing to change for the better. It's a tried and true hip-hop theme, and a far cry from the man who once decried the notion of "making a ho a housewife." Still, the track features some raw production and excellent flows from both rappers, and will surely please West coast purists.
"See I fell down the well, like well," raps Kurupt. "She asked me if I had other bitches, I'm like, 'well'" The line may look a little ridiculous on paper, and feature more "wells" than Homer Simpson's "rapping Ronnie Reagan tape," but Kurupt sells it with an honest and endearing delivery. Many lyricists have praised Kurupt as one of the most underrated, and while he might not be as prevalent as he once was, Kurupt can still spit fire when called upon.
Daz takes the second verse, picking up where his compatriot left off, reflecting on the sanctity of marriage. It seems as if trust hasn't exactly come easy for Daz or his lady friend - after all, The Dogg Pound once famously stated that "Bitches Ain't Shit but hoes and tricks." Perhaps the outlook has come back to bite him in the ass, and Daz seems frustrated with the way his relationship has gone left. His cynical outlook is a nice counterpart to Kurupt's failed optimism, and the chemistry is still strong, even after all these years. Overall, "The Dissolution Of Marriage" is a gem for Dogg Pound fans, and while the track could use a little more polish, the raw vibes add a certain sense of charm.
