Ro Ransom News

Staff Picks Playlist (January 8)

After taking a break over the holidays/daze, we've returned with Staff Picks in all it's playlist glory. Although music in general slowed down over the holiday season, things seem to be picking back up this week, as is reflected in the Staff Picks playlist. Of course, Kanye West stole the show with his release of "Real Friends/No More Parties In L.A.," however he made us work for it, uploading and then deleting the song from his SoundCloud multiple times through out the day. We made it, though.
Shooting The Shit With Ro Ransom

As a teenager, Ro Ransom went by the moniker Nero. Although his talent for rhyming was evident even back then, it's hard to know who exactly you are or who you will become when you're just a 15 or 16-year old kid. You're not legally an adult. You're still asking your parents for permission, being forced to do so in certain situations. You're still living in your mom's house. Shit, your parents might still be giving you an allowance (or telling you to find a part-time job). You have to do fucking homework. You're not independent, to say the least.

Underrated Audio aims to provide you with some dope looks from the last seven days that flew under most peoples' radars. While they may have received front-page placement on HNHH, they didn't get as many views as they deserve, so we shine a little more light on them right here.

Is FKA Twigs The New Aaliyah?
Is FKA Twigs The New Aaliyah? Aug 8, 2014 at 01:06pm
No, Tahlia Bennett, the artist formerly known as Twigs is not actually Aaliyah — I would never pigeonhole her artistry with such a blanket comparison. I also could never put Aaliyah’s entire legacy and everything she’s worth to my generation into a nice, neat, compartmented box. But beyond the fact that they both have consistently made incredible music; there are so many various ways that Twigs reminds me of Aaliyah, that it’s almost eerie.

On this week's edition we scrounge up music from rappers on the rise, some of whom just inked a independent label deal (Mick Jenkins), and some of whom are free agents (Ro Ransom). There's a producer who doubles as a singer, and a New York native brining a new sound to the city.

This week's Underrated Audio will put you on to five cuts from rising artists all of sorts. There are rappers representing the Beast Coast movement like The Underachievers, we've got Chi-town covered with up-and-comer Giftz, there's the expiremental Ro Ransom, and Sir Michael Rocks gives us some dope delivery on "In A Minute." Plus we have a track from female singer Jhene Aiko, who has some of the nicest vocal chords we've heard in awhile. What was your favorite track from the past seven days?

This week we bring to you only four cuts that fit the title. Although it seems like more and more music is dropping as we enter the summer months, not every thing is a stand out. These songs didn't necessarily get a lot of love from our viewers, so here we are giving them the second go-round in Underrated Audio. So click through the four jams, add them to your playlist, and proceed with a few more dope songs in your life.

Some new tunes for this week's Underrated Audio.       Buddy- Staircases Feat. Kendrick Lamar (Prod. Pharrell) Buddy premiered this track while out at SXSW, and the CDQ version kind of slipped under the radar. It's a chill song, all about getting high. With a feature from Kendrick and production by Pharrell you can't really go wrong.
