The drill life is dangerous.

With its blunt illustrations of the dangers of life growing in inner city Chicago, drill music has had a powerful influence shaping the sound of hip hop over the course of the last half-decade. Many of the genre's purveyors are active themselves in gang life, and as such some have been killed at an extremely young age. 

After Capo's untimely demise this weekend. we look at other drill rappers who have passed away in recent years.


Capo

Date of death: July 11, 2015 

Age: 22

Capo was gunned down Saturday afternoon, shot twice and taken to the hospital in serious-to-critical condition before being being pronounced dead. To greatly compound matters, the suspected killers struck and killed and a toddler as they fled the scene.

Capo was a well-known member of GBE, having appeared on their 2013 group mixtape Glory Boyz. He's best known for "Hate Me" feat. Chief Keef and his mixtapes G.L.O.N.L. and G.L.O.N.L. 2.

Blood Money

Date of death: April 9, 2014.

Age: 30

Blood Money, aka Big Glo, was shot 10 times and killed as he and his cousin talked to a group of girls on a South Side sidewalk. He was scheduled to be in a studio at the time of the shooting, but the session got pushed back.

His publicist said that he had signed a deal with Interscope shortly before his death. He received a $50,000 advance and had already recorded several songs for his debut release, including collaborations with Chief Keef and Cory Gunz. His team released his first posthumous record Believe In Da Glo 12 hours after his passing.

Lil Jojo

Date of death: September 4, 2012

Age: 18

Jojo was shot from behind as he rode a bike a few hours after posting a video to YouTube depicting him driving by Lil Reese shouting “you a bitch” and “I’mma kill you.”

Jojo was a member of the Gangster Disciples-affiliated set Brick Squad, who had beef with the Black Disciples (with whom Chief Keef was affiliated). Among Jojo's best-known songs are "BDK(3Hunnak)," which stands for "Black Disciples Killer." Watch his video for "Tied Up," which features a Keef doppelganger bound and gagged with a piece of duct tape over his mouth.

L'A Capone

Date of death: September 26, 2013

Age: 17

L'A Capone was shot in the right thigh and lower back as he walked through an alley returning home from a recording session.

Capone was longtime friends with Lil Durk and appeared in many of his videos. Though he never released any mixtapes aside from the posthumous Separate Myself, he had several YouTube videos with views numbering n the millions.

Date of death: May 29, 2015

Age: 20

Pappy was shot twice in a back in the Kenmore neighborhood in Uptown Chicago. He was brought to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds several hours later.

He was previously the target of two high profile shootings that resulted in the deaths of innocent bystanders. The first, in February 2014, took place at McDonalds parking lot and ended in the death of a  17-year old. The second, in July, resulted in the death of a 28-year old photographer as he waited at a bus stop.

Johnny Boy Da Prince, 23, shot in alley. Had been in talks with Atlantic Records.

Lil Jeff, 21, shot at a house party.

OTF Nunu, 21, shot as he sat in his SUV. Lil Durk's cousin.

Lil Marc, 20, shot at a bus stop.

Vonno, 20, shot in a botched robbery.
