Details have now emerged regarding the evacuation of YouTube's head office in San Bruno. It appears the female assailant who was reported on site wielding a weapon has been identified as Nasim Najafi Aghdam, a 39 year old animal rights activist, and herself a prolific YouTuber. Nasim wounded three people and injured a fourth before turning the weapon on herself. She would later die of her self-inflicted injuries. Here's what we know.

In an interview with Bay Area News Group, Nasim's father Ismail Aghdam gave insight into his daughter's malaise. He raised the issue of her advocacy work, describing her as a staunch vegan, with a extreme views which she often aired via her YouTube channel. Nasim had confessed to her father that she had grown disgruntled with YouTube's services. YouTube had reportedly ceased compensating her for views/clicks on her videos. YouTube can de-monetize and therefore pull back its ads at will, if it so chooses. It seems Nasim's hard line views came at the cost of her losing her subsidiary benefits, likely her main source of income.

Her website, further supports this theory of her becoming disgruntled with the video-sharing website. She posted a manifesto condemning the site for its use of censorship.

"There is no free speech in real world & you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not  supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered & merely relegated, so that people can  hardly see their videos! .There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site,  your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!"

Although evidence is overwhelmingly suggestive, authorities continue to piece together the remainder of the plot. This incident is the latest in a series of violent acts pushing the gun control debate to the fore.
