YNW Melly's "Murder On My Mind" Tops iTunes Chart Amid Murder Charges

YNW Melly's arrest sparks a surge in streams.

YNW Melly has been regarded as one of the hottest emerging artists to come out in the past six months. Unfortunately, legal troubles have set his career back. The rapper turned himself in to authorities this week following allegations of his involvement in a double murder that occurred in October 2018. After he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, fans began to deconstruct the lyrics to his hit song, "Murder On My Mind." Clearly, the interest in the song was high as it managed to make its way to the top of the iTunes chart.

The charges against YNW Melly might put his budding rap career to a halt if he's convicted but the rapper's breakout single hit #1 recently. According to chartdata, "Murder On My Mind" has soared to the top of the iTunes chart following news of his arrest. Complex reports that the song is also climbing up Spotify charts.

"Murder In My Mind" sparked a hip-hop conspiracy on social media. Fans began to believe that he detailed his alleged involvement in the murder of his two best friends and fellow YNW members. However, there was a major hole in this theory since the song was released in 2017 while the death of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.

Before turning himself in to authorities, the rapper shared a message on Instagram suggesting his innocence. However, police believe that he and YNW Bortlen -- the other person arrested with Melly -- staged the murder to make it look like a drive-by shooting.
