The death of XXXTENTACION hit many people extremely hard. The rapper touched many souls off the strength of his music alone. The week after his passing, his album ? soared from 23 to 3 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, he scored his first number one single with "SAD!." Towards the end of June, his album was certified gold. Now, the rapper's sophomore album has officially been certified platinum.
XXXTENTACION's ? has officially been certified platinum by the RIAA. This marks his first album to go platinum. His debut project, 17 was certified gold earlier this year. In addition, the rapper's single, "Moonlight" was also certified platinum on the same day. At the beginning of August, his chart topping single, "SAD!" was certified three times platinum.
Following his murder, it was revealed that XXXTENTACION signed a $10M deal with Empire for his next album. The deal was reportedly signed a few weeks before he died. Unfortunately, due to contractual agreements, the rapper's album won't be released until October. The label's founder, Ghazi Shami said X finished "a significant amount of material" for his next album but the release date wasn't scheduled yet.
