Earlier this year, XXXTentacion was murdered in broad daylight when a group of men blocked his car in Florida and shot him. The news shook the hip-hop community as he was viewed as one of the most talented up-and-coming artists in the world. Many found an escape in his music as he discussed topics like depression, anxiety, and the struggles we all face in our day-to-day lives. X was a deeply troubled soul. He had been accused of abusing his pregnant girlfriend, Geneva Ayala, both mentally and physically. The case was dropped after he was murdered but after Pitchfork released a 27-minute audio recording of the artist admitting to domestic abuse, public opinion started to shift.
Following up the controversial secret recording, Pitchfork has published a full transcript of what was said during the clip. Sensitive topics are discussed, like rape, abuse, domestic violence, and more. With XXX ineligible for the "Best New Artist" award at the Grammy's, his family was reportedly hoping for consideration in other categories. Considering his album ? was as impactful as it was, that wasn't necessarily out of the question. However, The Blast is now reporting that his family is worried the tape will negatively influence the decisions made by the Grammy committee.
