We asked New Yorkers to chime in on the "Famous" scandal between Kimye and Taylor Swift.
The craziest shit to go down last week in hip-hop, and in all of entertainment, really, was the surprise airing of the "Famous" phone call between Kanye West and Taylor Swift, which had only been a rumor until last weekend. The spectacle, dubbed the #KimExposesTaylorParty sent social media into a frenzy, with many rebuking Taylor as a fraud, as she had immediately taken offense to the "Famous" lyrics that implicated her, while Kanye and Kim maintained that she had approved them ahead of time. Taylor can indeed be heard having a friendly conversation with Kanye about some of the controversial lyrics in question, though after Kim leaked footage of their phone call, Taylor rebuked Kimye, threatened legal action, and pointed out that Kanye had never told her he was going to rap, "I made that bitch famous."
Yikes. Seeing that the three persons involved are among the world's biggest celebrities, we ate up every morsel of the drama. As is tradition with such controversies affecting the hip-hop world, we had to head out into the city streets to get the people's thoughts on the FamousGate scandal. As usual, our trusty New Yorkers delivered some hilarious hot takes.
Most everybody seems to agree that Taylor "got got" and that she deserved to be outed in the viral manner that she was. "You thought you was low, and we caught you, fam," says our man in the protective headgear. "She's too perfect, it's about time that something like this happened to her," said another about Taylor's fall from grace. Most of the men were highly impressed with the way Kim put herself on the front lines in defense of her man. And some took the whole thing to be one big publicity stunt.
What about you guys? Did Taylor get what was coming to her? Or did Kanye strike her with an overly offensive blow on "Famous"? Who's gonna emerge the cleanest when it's all said and done?
