For all the wrong reasons, YNW Melly has become an infamous member of the rap game in 2019. The young Florida rapper started picking up steam last year and when he dropped his new album, featuring a guest appearance from Kanye West, it felt like all the stars were aligning. Unafraid to explore how far he can push his vocals, Melly's momentum was initially derailed when he go caught up in some legal issues at the beginning of the year. Arrested for marijuana possession, he spent a few days in jail before making it out in time for his tour. However, with fresh (and much more serious) charges haunting him now, it's unlikely that we'll be hearing much from him in the near future.

Here's all you need to know about YNW Melly.

"Murder On My Mind"

The song that built the foundation for YNW Melly's entire rap career is still his most relevant song to date. Music is a form of artistic expression and not everything that somebody raps about can be taken at face value. However, Melly's hit "Murder On My Mind" speaks about the mental difficulties that one experiences when they *hypothetically* commit murder. Now that it has broken out that Melly was allegedly involved in the murders of his two friends last year, this song is troubling to listen to. This week, the song reached a streaming peak, hitting the top of iTunes' chart.

YNW Juvy & YNW Sakchaser

In October 2018, two of YNW Melly's associates passed away after being shot in Fort Lauderdale. Initially, Melly was distraught when he found out, tweeting a goodbye message to his friends. "They Took My Brothers From Me Over Jealousy," wrote the rising rapper. "They wanna see me break down and stop or in jail or a box but my n***as still need me they parents need me they family need me till we meet again my slimes."

YNW Juvy was 19-years-old and YNW Sakchaser was 21-years-old when they were murdered. In the post, Melly emphasized that it's YNW (Young N***a World) for life, which seems to contradict his apparent involvement in their murders.

Double Murder Charges

In a shocking twist to the story, YNW Melly was charged in the double murder of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. The artist, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is being accused of staging the killing to look like a random drive-by shooting. He was arrested alongside YNW Bortlen and the police are saying that Melly was the one who pulled the trigger on his friends. YNW Bortlen was reportedly driving the drive-by vehicle, helping Melly in making it appear to be a random incident, later driving Sakchaser and Juvy's dead bodies to the hospital.

Last week, Demons was denied bond with authorities stating that there is sufficient forensic evidence linking him to the murders of his associates. It remains unclear whether the murders were pre-meditated. Melly and Bortlen's motives have also not been stated yet.

"Fake News"

YNW Melly attempted to clarify why he was arrested, knowing full well how badly this looks for him. He posted a photo of himself with his YNW crew on Instagram, showing love to his two deceased friends and noting that many "rumors and lies" are being spread around.

"To all my fans and supporters no I did not get locked up in Washington, but I am turning myself in today," wrote the young musician. "I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y’all, a couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice.. unfortunately a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen and we want y’all to remember it’s a ynw Family I love you @ynwsakchaser1 and @ynwjuvy #freeus."
