On Sunday evening, in a lineup of performances that included, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, Niall Horan, and even Korean boy band BTS, Macklemore was also set on the bill to appear onstage alongside singer Skylar Grey for a rendition of the duo's "Glorious" track.
Macklemore's performance arrvied as one of the very few moments that Hip-Hop got a chance to grace the stage Sunday evening. The other occurence in question would come from DJ Khaled, as he took to the stage to accept the award for "Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Song with "I'm The One."
"Glorious" is the lead single off of Macklemore's most recent Gemini album, the second solo effort to come from the Seattle-bred rapper since his musical split from producer Ryan Lewis.
"I enjoy delving into a concept and really pushing myself to write what is in my heart. But with this album I think there's an air of like "first thought, best thought" that I don't think that Ryan and I really ever tapped into – just being in the booth and feeling an emotion and going with it," Macklemore told Rolling Stone earlier this year in reference to Gemini And then the next day you start over and you do it again. Like you watch Wayne or you watch Jay-Z record or you know a lot of these new rappers how they record and I think there's an air of freedom to that method of just like, "Let's just make art, let's not overthink it, let's not over-calculate it, let's not preemptively quantify what this is gonna mean to the world. But let's just make some rap music."
