Iceman and Maverick are back.
Almost any movie that was made in the 80's is finding a way to return to the big screen. Last month, Tom Cruise confirmed that he was coming back for the Top Gun sequel, Maverick. His character Maverick would not have reached heights of greatness without an equally skilled rival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Val Kilmer's Iceman will be returning alongside Maverick for the sequel. It's been 32 years since Maverick and Iceman competed to become the Top Gun, but they will be facing a much more modern task this time around.
Top Gun: Maverick will feature a plot that finds the pilots battling with new technology. New tech such as drones make the pilots' jobs obsolete, but Maverick and Iceman aren't regular pilots. Kilmer teased returning to the project a few years back when he posted on Facebook, "I just got offered #topgun2 - not often you get to say "yes" without reading the script." It took three years for that deal to solidify, but Paramount will be releasing Top Gun: Maverick on July 12, 2019.
Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, TRON: Legacy) is set to direct the film, while Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise will produce. Harold Faltermeyer, the composer who created Top Gun's legendary theme music, is also returning to the production.
