Ostovich pulls out of VanZant fight as result of brutal beating at the hands of her husband.
MMA fighter Arnold Berdon, husband of UFC's Rachael Ostovich, has reportedly been arrested on attempted murder charges after he brutally assaulted Ostovich during an argument at their home in Hawaii. According to TMZ Sports, Ostovich was hospitalized over the weekend with serious injuries, including a broken orbital bone, which will force her to miss the biggest bout of her career against Paige VanZant.
"Cops in Honolulu opened a domestic violence investigation earlier this week ... and now police officials tell us 27-year-old Arnold Berdon -- Ostovich's husband and father of her child -- was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of 2nd degree attempted murder."
According to Hawaii News Now, Ostovich wrote that Berdon punched her repeatedly on the head, face, and ribs during the attack which left her gasping for breath. Also in the temporary restraining order, obtained by Hawaii News Now, Ostovich describes how she had to escape through the balcony and that she coughed up blood and vomited several times.
As a result of injuries sustained during the attack, the 27-year old fighter was forced to pull out of her match against Paige VanZant, which was scheduled for the UFC’s debut on ESPN+ on January 19. According to MMA site Bloody Elbow, Ostovich is currently 1-1 in the UFC, and 4-4 overall. VanZant, 24, has not fought since she broke her arm in a loss to Jessica Rose-Clark last January.
Berdon, who holds a 7-2 MMA record, is still in custody at the Honolulu Police Department, though a family member told TMZ that he "intends to vigorously dispute in court any allegations he assaulted his wife."
