The Cleveland Indians have made history.
The Cleveland Indians, the baseball club who was left at the championship altar last year when the Chicago Cubs defeated them to win the World Series, have shown no signs of slowing down in 2017. Now, they're the outright holders of one of professional baseball's most impressive records.
Today (September 13th), by defeating the Detroit Tigers, the Indians became the only club to record 21 consecutive victories, besting the previous mark of 20 in a row set by the 2002 Oakland A's. The reaction in the dugout right after the final out was recorded tells you all you need to know about the feeling in that Cleveland clubhouse.
HISTORIC!!! THE CLEVELAND INDIANS HAVE WON 21 GAMES STRAIGHT TO MAKE THE LONGEST AMERICAN LEAGUE STREAK IN MLB HISTORY!!!!! pic.twitter.com/LpD5ljY105— Vern Thompson (@VernThompson) September 13, 2017
The Indians' Twitter account decided to get in on the celebration act too, changing their name to simply a string of W's. Extremely fitting on this day.
Many members of the social media community took to the platform to congratulate the ball club on setting this historic mark in sports history. Some impressive stats were culled as well, making the achievement stand out that much more.

This win streak is one of those things you never think you'll ever experience. Getting to see the Cleveland Indians do it has me on cloud 9— Alex Dailey (@iLGDailey) September 13, 2017

The American League was founded in 1901. No team had ever won 21 consecutive games -- until the 2017 Cleveland Indians. It's mind-boggling.— Jared Diamond (@jareddiamond) September 13, 2017

The win streak isn't the longest ever in baseball - the 1935 Chicago Cubs also won 21 games, but they play in the opposite league, the NL. With this record-setting moment, all eyes will be on the Indians to not only keep up their winning ways, but also to translate that energy into postseason wins. With the Los Angeles Dodgers struggling as of late, their lead over Cleveland for the best record in all of baseball has been trimmed to just three wins. Will this win streak enhance the Indians' chances of bringing a championship home to their city? Or have they spent too much energy chasing history and will be left with too little in the tank come the postseason? Let us know in the comments.
