During the biggest fight of the year, the real party was happening on Twitter.
The biggest event of the weekend, and undoubtedly one of the most exciting in the calendar for professional sports this year, was the boxing extravaganza that pitted Floyd Mayweather against Conor McGregor, his challenger who came from a Mixed Martial Arts background. Mayweather won by TKO in the 10th round, but it wasn't a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination. McGregor put up a really good fight and it showed early on, a fact that was echoed throughout the Twitter-verse.

Conor won that round, Floyd did very little and the Irishman actually landed a nice left uppercut! 10-9, Conor— Bible of Boxing (@ringmagazine) August 27, 2017
Conor up 2-0 over the greatest boxer of the generation in my books.— Chris Weidman (@ChrisWeidmanUFC) August 27, 2017
As the bout wore on, some had serious concerns about McGregor's stamina and how much longer he could last against Mayweather.
Mayweather was biding his time and baiting mistakes. McGregor is tired. This was his plan. #MayweathervMcgregor— Stephanie (@FemSteph) August 27, 2017
McGregor has put up one hell of a showing. But I am now worried about him with three long rounds to go. The ninth was not pretty.— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) August 27, 2017
When the fight was over, the respect for McGregor's gumption and Floyd's performance that now has his record at 50-0 poured in on social media.

Conner kept it interesting but he was outboxed and outclassed in the square ring. Nothing to be ashamed of tho. I like him even more now! 👍🏾— Lennox Lewis (@LennoxLewis) August 27, 2017

Among those who were most impressed was Steve Harvey, who was videoed backstage after the fight giving some big props to McGregor for the effort he displayed throughout the fight.

Chance the Rapper had a little bit of fun on Twitter after the bout as well, repping Floyd's win and also playfully chastising those who made bets against the champ.

Additional post-fight reaction and memes appeared on Twitter in waves upon waves of hilarity. From those who may have made ill-advised bets on the Irish fighter to Floyd's supposed reaction when his earnings from the fight cash themselves in, you can always count on social media to hit the nail on the head and then some.
