See what twitter had to say following the biggest upset in NCAA history Friday night.
The unthinkable happened Friday night when the #16 seed UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) Retrievers upset #1 seed Virginia Cavaliers in the first round of the NCAA tournament, marking the first time in history such a defeat as happened. The Retrievers not only won the game however, but they did so in impressive fashion as they annihilated Virginia by 20, winning 74-54. What’s even worse though is that the NCAA selected Virginia as the #1 overall seed in the entire tournament, entering Friday night with a 31-2 record, but that didn't matter.
UMCB’s victory was such an anomaly that with five minutes left in the game, the school’s website was shut down due to people Googling just what the hell it was lol.
But with the biggest upset in NCAA history happening Friday night, and arguably the biggest upset in all of sports history, Twitter had a field day following the madness. We decided to compile some of those reactions and share them with y’all (below). Check it out, and be sure to tune in Sunday night to watch UMBC take on Kansas State in the round of 32.
