Today we’ve got a release from up north. Toronto to be exact. Getting the requisite OVO-affiliate label, TRIPSIXX gives us songs that are equal parts Travi$ Scott, Bryson Tiller, and Young Thug, while still sounding like his own artist.

TRIPSIXX lives in the dark of the night, after most people have gone to bed. He raps and sings mainly about debauched after parties, and the resulting money folding that happens from his music. A small dose of autotune allows him to drift in and out of songs, conveying the half-gone nature of the stories he tells. Fittingly, his debut EP is titled We Own The Night.

The first track is probably the slowest on the album, an interesting choice and ultimately one that works, as the rest of the record turns it up throughout. “Savage Shit” in particular is a highlight. The production varied enough to keep the 5 song EP feeling fresh, but tied together by the signature Toronto sound so that it all sounds cohesive.

Although he hasn’t been around for long (his first song as TRIPSIXX is only one year old), TRIPSIXX has the sound of a season artist, with plenty of personality, skill on the mic, and a comfort in his identity that allows him to experiment with different styles.
