If you missed it, XXL is starting to rollout the anticipated freestyles for their annual cypher series, with J.I.D. and Ski Mask The Slump God kicking things off yesterday with the first cypher. Well it’s expected that every rapper who's on the XXL Freshman cover would partake in the cypher, it appears that’s not going to be the case. Trippie Redd decided to not do the cypher, and now he’s explaining his reasoning as for why.

Trippie says he knew he was going to get a “trash” beat, and that he just wanted to do the freestyle portion instead.

“So fuck all that shit. I wasn't left off the cypher or none of that shit. I just didn't want to do it. I chose not to do it because I knew the beat was going to be trash,” he said. “Nothing against XXL or them people, but I just didn’t want to be a part of that. I wanted to do my freestyle ya feel me? That’s all I cared about, that’s all I wanted to do was show y’all what I can do.”

Now if you ask me that seems like a pretty weak reason to not participate in the annual cypher because of beat selection, but that’s just me.
