Jay Rock's new album is still coming, ya bish.
While 2017 has already seen releases from Kendrick Lamar (DAMN), and SZA (CTRL), many TDE fans have been left wondering when they'd be getting a new project from Jay Rock. Back in July, it was revealed that the followup to 2015's 90059 was in the process of being mixed, and while there were no hints about a potential release date, mixing generally tends to occur late in the album's cycle. Still, the good folks over at TDE have been largely silent when it comes to Jay Rock's upcoming album, opting to build buzz through mysterious snippets and in-studio footage.
Earlier today, Top Dawg Entertainment president Top Dawg shared a video on Instgram, in which Jay Rock and trusted engineer Derek 'mixedbyali' Ali were previewing a new banger. We didn't get to hear much, but the thirty odd seconds certainly left a positive impression. The beat starts off with a minimalist arrangement, largely driven by a sci-fi synth line and atmospheric pad. Jay Rock wastes little time in bringing the energy, and once the drums kick in, he's officially going in. Yet perhaps the most interesting tidbit comes from Jay Rock's closing line, in which he raps "me and Grizzley on the track-" before being cut off.
But it's enough, and the hype train for a Jay Rock and Tee Grizzley collaboration can official depart. It's exactly the style of beat that Tee Grizzley can murder, and if the rest of the track can deliver what the first thirty seconds promise, we're in for a future banger. Check out the video below, courtesy of Mr. Top Dawg himself. What do you think? Are you hyped for this project? Sound off in the comments below.
