It's no secret the UFC's interim lightweight champ Tony Ferguson feels like he's been given the short end of the stick. Much has been made about a Khabib-McGregor and countless others scenarios involving fighters from other "fighting backgrounds" not named Tony Ferguson. The interim champ is starting to feel a little left out, and understandably so.

With Khabib chasing a paycheck with Floyd Mayweather across promotional lines (likely not to happen anytime soon), the door has opened for Tony Ferguson to challenge Conor McGregor when the Irishman eventually makes his return to the octagon. There was even a point in time, where Tony Ferguson was "actively" holding out for a consolidation fight with McGregor, but the Irishman chose to moonlight in a different weight class.

Ferguson, a confident fighter in his own right, widely believes Khabib Nurmagomedov circumvented the natural order of succession in choosing a mega fight with McGregor, while he was the interim champ, and theoretically "first in line."

"I feel I do my best against Southpaws," Ferguson wrote on Twitter. "Most of my finishes are against them with style points. I feel if I were to fight Conor McGregor in a cage or boxing match my athleticism and conditioning would be too much for the Irishman and he would easily break in a few rounds."
