Tiger Woods will reportedly serve as the U.S. team's captain for the Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Australia in 2019 and it is expected that he'll be introduced on Tuesday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, according to Alex Miceli of Morning Read. Ernie Els will captain the International team according to the reports.
Woods has played on eight Presidents Cup teams during his career but 2019 will mark his first since 2013. The last time he and Els went head-to-head in Presidents Cup action was in 2003 in South Africa when the two were picked for a sudden-death playoff. They went three holes at Fancourt but the event ended in a tie after it was deemed to dark to continue.
In his most recent competition over the weekend, Tiger finished tied for second at the Valspar Championship, nearly ending his five-year title drought. The 42-year old 14-time major winner has shown glimpses of his former self heading into the year's first major, the Masters at Augusta, which begins in just under three weeks.
"I keep getting just a little bit better and a little bit sharper," Woods said, per CNN. "Today I wasn't quite as sharp as I would've liked to have had it, but I had a good shot at winning the golf tournament."A couple of putts here and there and it could've been a different story."
