The comedian readies her debut.
Tiffany Haddish is planning to release her debut album as a recording artist. The comic already dipped her toes into the music industry, having performed on her Grammy Award-nominated audiobook last year. She also will be displaying her vocal chop as Queen Watevra Wa’Nab in the upcoming Lego Movie 2. Although The Last Unicorn audiobook lost the Grammy title to former President Jimmy Carter's work, the acknowledgment gave the comedian enough confidence to shift her focus on music.
“It really inspired me. Like, ‘Wow if I can [get] nominated for a Grammy for telling my truth, what can I get if I really just apply myself and my vocal skills?’” she explained. The star already has working titles in mind based on her successful comedy tour. “It will probably be the ‘She Ready’ album or ‘The She Ready Experience’ or ‘The We Ready Album,'” Haddish revealed.
The aspiring artist welcomes the idea of collaborations. She named Cardi B as one of the artists she would like to feature on the project. “I’m trying to get her on a couple of tracks,” she said before launching into an impression of the rapper. “I’m like ‘She ready, brrrrrrr!”
Tiffany has the right connections to make a stellar, but she simply plans on having a good time. “I’m going to see what happens," she added. "It might be really great, it might not. But who cares, right? You’ve got to give it a shot.”
