T.I. has experienced moderate success as an actor, most notably for his 2006 film "ATL." The 35-year-old rapper is about to face his biggest acting challenge yet -- according to Variety, he is joining the cast of the A&E Network's reboot of "Roots," the 1977 TV miniseries based on Alex Haley's 1976 novel.

T.I. is the latest addition to a loaded cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Mehki Phifer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Laurence Fishburne, Malachi Kirby, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, and Derek Luke. Questlove is serving as the show's executive producer.

Malachi Kirby will who will play the role of Kunta Kinte.  T.I. will play the role of Cyrus, “a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces.”

"Roots" is currently being filmed in Louisiana and is slated to air sometime in 2016, in the form of four 2-hour episodes.
