If there was any remaining doubt that The Weeknd is one of the most popular pop stars on the planet, he has broken the record for most Spotify streams in a single day. Spotify confirmed the news to Pitchfork.
Spotify did not specify the number of songs The Weeknd racked up over the course of the record-breaking day. He unseats Justin Bieber, whose music earned 36 million streams on November 13th of last year.
The Weeknd's new album Starboy features appearances from Daft Punk, Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Lana Del Rey. It is 18 songs long, which may have marginally inflated his stream count, and is projected to sell as many as 400k units in its first week. Listen to the album here.
