Before DMX was ever regarded as a big-time box office draw, he let noted videographer show him the ropes, in a conjoint manner - both "artists" taking their first steps in unison. Since DMX was already dealing with a heavy workload when it came time to piece together Belly's soundtrack, the task of writing/performing "Tommy's Theme" was bestowed upon The LOX, and a lesser-known entity: Made Men.
But lo and behold, Made Men weren't exactly the unknown commodity they were perceived to be on first contact. Made Men was comprised Benzino, who as you know, helped to usher in a new dawn for hip-hop editorial work in the early 90s with the Source. The rest of the roster spots were filled by Zino's longtime partner Antonio Twice Thou, and Cool Gzus, who used to run with the TDS Crew, also in Boston.
Although Made Men receive top billing in the liner notes, anyone that grew up listening to the Belly soundtrack front to back can attest to The LOX stealing the show from a historical perspective. When Jada claims he can murder a person on sight with the powers of his mind, you can't help but take him at his word. Few rappers speak as tangibly as the L-O-X, up to the present.
