ABC's The Goldbergs lost one of its stars earlier this year after 20-year-old Jackson Odell passed away from an accidental drug overdose, BBC reports. Jackson was reportedly found unconscious in a sober living home in California back in June and now the cause of death has been revealed. “There was no paraphernalia or legal drugs found on the scene,” Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told PEOPLE. “He was found unresponsive.”

Jackson played Ari Caldwell on the ABC sitcom and also had roles in Modern Family and Arrested Development.

"The Odell family has lost our beloved son and brother, Jackson Odell on Friday," a statement read. "He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul.  He had so much more to share. Our family will always carry that truth forward. Our wish is that the rest of the world who knew and loved him does as well.  We are now going to try to make sense of our immeasurable loss privately.  We will not be making any further statements."
