In 2016, HNHH launched one Spotify playlist to rule them all: FIRE EMOJI: The Hottest Hip Hop Songs Right Now.

The playlist is updated regularly and is representative of the best new releases in hip hop and R&B, or at least those that make it to Spotify.

Coming off the full-on release blitz that was August, some hip-hop fans may have been expecting a slightly quieter period. However, that's far from what we got, with several massive singles from Gucci Mane, Ty Dolla $ign and Trippie among the standouts that were added to Spotify over the past 30 days. However, the two biggest songs deserve special attention, with Post Malone and 21 Savage's "Rockstar" dwarfing much of the competition and Rich the Kid's new collaboration with Kendrick Lamar called "New Freezer" making a late-month push as one of the most popular songs from September with HNHH fans.

Elsewhere, some excellent album cuts from artists like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's The Bigger Artist, Jhene Aiko's Trip and Macklemore's Gemini made the cut as well, along with new cuts from DRAM, G Herbo and Kevin Gates also along for the ride over the course of the month. Finally, Young Thug and Carnage debuted their new single "Liger" shortly before the former was arrested and jailed for possession of marijuana by Georgia police officials. Overall, it was a really strong month for hip-hop music that, while it didn't carry as much fanfare as August's release schedule, it was by no means a drop-off quality-wise.

Our current playlist contains songs from these projects as well as many others that were bumping throughout the month of September, along with some additional releases from back in August that are still very much a part of the conversation in the hip-hop community.
