The legendary Beastie Boys have solidified themselves as one of hip-hop's most storied groups, and the legacy of Mike D, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz, and the late MCA is widely respected by fans and historians alike. The group recently stopped in for a conversation with Beats 1 radio host Matt Wilkinson, who asked for a progress report on the previously announced Beastie Boys memoir. Mike D responded that progress was going along "swimmingly," and that fans can expect the book around Autumn:

"We’re actually going to finish it. I think it’s going to come out finally. Like many things we embark on, there were many false starts and honestly directions we went in we realized were not the direction we should be going in. It’s going to be coming out in fall of this year."

The memoir is set to focus on the group's origin, as well as their early rise to fame. However, it will also cover more recent events up to the present day.  “To tell our story, we have to give the cultural history of where we came from. So New York City in the ’80s, you had all this incredible, exciting music, art, film," says Mike D. "All of that sort of has to converge to be able to explain. We just had the good fortune of being around all of it, so I think that’s number one.”

He also promises that the book will be unlike any musician or band book we've ever seen. Peep the full conversation below, and sound off - are you guys fans of The Beastie Boys?
