Although his name has been dragged through the mud countless times, Tekashi 6ix9ine is taking some time to remind people that he's not an absolute waste of space as some claim him to be. There is no doubt that the Brooklyn rapper has gotten seriously richer over the last year via the success of his debut project Day 69 and his five charting singles. While the controversial artist is promising to chart a sixth track with the impending release of "GED," he is making good use of the astounding income coming in.
Shooting the music video for his unreleased song in the Dominican Republic, 6ix9ine took some time off to ponder on the poverty in the country. While he claims to have grown up with nothing in Brooklyn and is known for giving back to his community, Tekashi wrote, "As a Latino I feel the need to help my people. I’m not Dominican... But we are ALL ONE." In the video, the rapper is seen handing out hundred dollar bills to children and their families, as well as reflecting on what it means to be poor. 6ix9ine talks to the camera while floating in the water, saying that being in DR has given him a new realization of the extent of poverty around the world.
Everything aside, it's nice to see Tekashi making headlines for doing something positive. While he has a lot of work to do before people forget about his disputed history, this is a step in the right direction. 6ix9ine is currently in the Dominican with videographer Cole Bennett and DJ Akademiks as they film his upcoming music video. The rapper has made a pitch to XXL and fans for his inclusion on the 2018 Freshman List, which is to be announced soon.
