Reason celebrates his arrival to the TDE family with "The Soul."

After appearing on the TDE-curated Black Panther: The Album, Reason has officially joined the likes of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, SZA, and more. It has been reported that the California rapper signed a deal with the hip-hop juggernaut, with Top Dawg making the announcement via Twitter today. In honor of the money move, Reason has shared a new single called "The Soul," produced by MyGuyMars. Taking to some subdued yet bouncy percussion, Reason brings some west coast energy to the jazzy-cymbal groove.

It's a refreshing look in a post-trap world, as Reason spits bars like "a walking contradiction but admit mine, outspoken but harbor my feelings inside, till the beat play and all the pain come out." Emotion lingers on the bylines, waiting to flood out. It's a delivery reminiscent, in some ways, of Tee Grizzley's, who brought a similar energy on "First Day Out."

The single should prove a welcome introduction to what Reason's about, and fans of lyrically inclined hip-hop should take solace in his addition to the TDE roster. In Top Dawg we trust, until given reason otherwise.

Quotable Lyrics

Walking contradiction but admit mine,
Outspoken but harbor my feelings inside,
Till the beat play and all the pain come out
Then speak bout this game come out
I gave it all to make it I'm not leavin'
Do it all for the streets my n***a the block bleedin'
Better off swallowing knives than to try to stop Reason
