Audio engineers are some of music's unsung heroes, so it's always nice to see them get a little bit of well-deserved recognition. Top Dawg Entertainment's Derek "MixedByAli" has been integral in shaping Kendrick Lamar's sound, and the talented engineer has also worked with ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock. And while fans have been steadily waiting for some new music from pretty much every TDE artist, Jay Rock loyalists have been clamoring for any news on his upcoming project. The last we heard was back in the summer, when Top Dawg previewed a possible collaboration with Tee Grizzley. Afterward, it's been relatively quiet where Jay Rock is concerned.

And while the ship on a 2017 release has all but sailed, MixedByAli has given fans a reminder that some new Jay Rock is indeed coming. Ali took to Instagram to share a picture of Jay Rock in the studio, tagging the rapper alongside the caption "Soon Come." If that's not enough to get you at least moderately excited, consider the fact that 2018 will almost certainly bring upon releases from Jay Rock and ScHoolboy Q; perhaps even Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad will come through with something new as well. If all goes according to plan, 2018 is shaping up to be a massive year for TDE, who has consistently proven themselves to be one of the game's most consistent labels.

While it's not exactly the most exciting announcement, it's good to know that Jay Rock's album is still coming. What say you to that? Are ya'll checking for some new Jay Rock?
