Death Row Records had quite the run in the 90s. Picking up where N.W.A left off, Suge Knight assembled an all-star crew that would come to epitomize the West Coast hip-hop sound, along with bringing it to popularity. 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and others dropped classic after classic on the controversial label.

The label dominated in the early 90s, but when Tupac Shakur was murdered, it began to take a downward spiral. The label filed bankruptcy in 2006 before being auctioned off to WIDEawake Entertainment Group, Inc. for $18 million in 2009.

Suge Knight hasn't removed himself far from controversy throughout this time. The man was shot at back in August and is reportedly not cooperating with law enforcement on the matter. Sounds like the old dog is still up to the same tricks.

At any rate, we're here for the music, not criminal speculation, and from The Chronic to Tha Dogg Pound, you can't deny Death Row's influence. Stay tuned each week for a different #TBT theme to take you back.
