Online shopping has become a undeniable force in consumer spending habits, as many opt out of traditional brick-and-mortar retail spaces in favour of their preferred electronic device. Whether using a computer, smartphone, tablet, or other technology, humans routinely enjoy shopping through digital spaces far removed from the more traditional means of browsing and purchasing goods.

However, smartphones are continually outpacing desktops/laptops and tablets as the medium du jour for online shopping. According to a report posted on Recode, Adobe Analytics reveals how there has been a 27 percent upsurge in the amount of money spent per visit on an online retailer, while the total time spent on the site has decreased around ten percent. This information was pulled from research that evaluated one trillion website visits from 5,000 webpages between January 2015-December 2017.

People tend to prefer this particular mode of shopping because of most retailers' optimization of digital e-commerce spaces for smartphone use, as well as strong cellular connections.

Adobe has also made a projection for the future, noting how the smartphone retail industry could see a net profit of $12 billion USD by the year 2021, which is a staggering figure to digest.
