Ski Mask The Slump God is a talented rapper, but it seems as if 2018 will be an important year for the young Floridian. While he's been working on plenty of new music (including collaborations with legends Timbaland and Busta Rhymes), Ski Mask has also found himself dropped from the new Denzel Curry single. Moreover, his invitation to record with XXXTentacion was declined, a curious development considering X's seemingly sincere extension of the olive branch. Despite the ups-and-downs, Ski Mask seems content to keep grinding, and today, he comes through with the ARNOLDISDEAD and Jimmy Duval produced "Poltergeist."
But is this song the quality of the original movie, or is it more like the remake? While Ski Mask is always technically impressive, his beat selection here veers into abrasive territory; it's not that the beat is bad, but the distorted mixing makes it a little difficult to sit with. Plus, it's hard to get a sense of Ski Mask's songwriting ability when many of his songs are under two minutes. Still, I have hope that the Slump God will emerge stronger than ever, and hopefully his upcoming Book Of Eli will solidify his place in the rap game.
