Silk City follow-up on their first single.
The two powerhouse producers that are Diplo and Mark Ronson announced months ago that they will be linking to make music under the moniker Silk City.
“Silk City is an homage to some of the greatest dance music cities Chicago, London, Paris, Detroit,” Diplo said. “Mark Ronson & I met as DJs 20 years ago & our paths have taken us everywhere since. It is great to get back together & make music.”
Back in May they dropped off their first single together titled "Only Can Get Better" that was exactly what you would expect from the two - an EDM, club banger with minimal vocals. Today, they have followed up on the song with a video that shows clips of them making beats in the studio and performing at festivals, dancing on tables and living the lives of world-renowned DJs.
Not too long Diplo confronted accusations of cultural appropriation and replied to matter with a few words. "I don’t...really...fucking care. What kind of music am I supposed to make? Being a white American, you have zero cultural capital, unless you’re doing Appalachian fiddle music or something. I’m just a product of my environment," he said. “When it comes to making music, understand that my intentions are always great. I’m there for the music only. I have a lot of privilege by being a middle-class white American. So if I had to trade that by being considered exploitative, and people always saying negative things about me...it’s a small price to pay.”
