ShaqIsDope is a Toronto emcee who doesn’t sound like other Toronto emcees right now, and that’s dope. Not to say the singing/rapping sound that’s quickly becoming signature to the Canadian city isn’t great as well, but a scene always thrives with diversity.
Using an ominous loop with some simple snares as the backdrop, ShaqIsDope lets his lyrics shine through on “The Weapon,” which is fitting because his wordplay and voice are the weapon he speaks of in the song.
“The Weapon” also acts as a release announcement for the rapper. His next mixtape Black Frames comes out March 3.
