Therefore, it seems appropriate to show some love to ScHoolboy's respectable career by diving into his second album Habits & Contradictions. While the project features a consistent array of bangers, there's something timeless about the brash swagger of "Hands On The Wheel," a collaboration with the impeccable A$AP Rocky. I swear, whenever Q and Rocky team up for a track, it's always fire. Clearly, this one is no exception, and both rappers murder the Best Kept Secret laced instrumental. Just listen to that opening vocal sample from Lissie's take on Kid Cudi's "The Pursuit Of Happiness (Nightmare)", and tell me that's not a powerful way to set a tone.
As for the bars, you already know that both Q and Rocky are well equipped in that department. While both are capable lyricists with moments of conceptual and narrative brilliance, "Hands On The Wheels" finds them celebrating the simple things in life. Also known as weed and brews. It's no secret that Q, at least at the time, was a self proclaimed "druggie wit hoes." Here, he plays the role with a thespians' touch, spitting lyrics like "My philosophy upon living right, n***a weed and brews, and head every night, hope the pussy nice, cause I'mma fight the bitch."
While Q bookends "Hands On The Wheel" with two solid verses, Rocky's dexterous flow threatens to steal the show. He largely echoes the themes stirred up by Q, spitting "weed and brews, unbelieveable, got a freak or two, in my vehicle, got the purple drink, got the yellow drink, then we mix it up, call it Pikachu." Fun fact, Q was an admitted Pokemon Go fiend when that game first dropped. So, in honor of TBT, revisit this classic from the birthday boy.
