Producer SBTRKT is on a roll this week. After dropping off a dope collaboration with singer Raury earlier in the week ("Higher"), he leaks another new album track, this time featuring A$AP Mob's Fergalicious.
"Higher" gives the listener a frantic feeling, with Raury's quick-paced lyrics and the climbing beat. For "Voices In My Head" we get a mish-mash of the melancholic and the hard, as the beat goes through many different phases. It starts out calm with piano keys but the energy is quickly brought back up. It sounds like all the phases of the production have to do with the way the SBTRKT recorded it-- he started making it in London, before bringing it to L.A., then bringing it back to London, then finally wrapping it up with Ferg's verse in New York. As he says on his Soundcloud, "this started with me having a seed idea but seeing it grow way beyond that with these multi layers of collaboration and places."
We're excited to hear the new album from SBTRKT, Wonder Where We Land. Pre-order it on iTunes.
Lots of thoughts running through my brain
Don't wanna be caught like Kurt Cobain
My mind's a Porsche switching lanes
All of a sudden I'm feeling all of this guilt and pain
Kids is dying from drugs they buying
Popping the molly and feeling like Iron Man
Shit is like lighting a fire inside of them
Fuck is you niggas tryna get higher than
Higher than Mars, killing ourselves
'Cause we live in a fucked up environment
