Roseanne Barr lost her show within weeks of it getting a reboot. Roseanne was popular in the 90's, and made a resurgence in the wake of the Donald Trump election. Barr and her cast catered to the right-leaning audience with their sitcom, an alignment that many primetime sitcoms do not have. The rebooted series was a hit, until Roseanna made racist remarks on Twitter which compared former White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett to a primate mixed with a Muslim. ABC canceled Roseanne, but was not eager to let go of their hit series altogether. The station elected to continue on with Roseanne's on-screen family using a new series called The Conners.
The Conners premiered on Tuesday night (October 16), and ABC chose to kill off Roseanne with an opioid overdose. Roseanne wasn't a fan of the way they let her character go, and she hopped on Twitter to react to the news. "I AIN’T DEAD, BITCHES!!!!," she tweeted angrily. Roseanne also released an extended statement on Facebook where she lays down deeply misinformed opinions such as, "Roseanne was the only show on television that directly addressed the deep divisions threatening the very fabric of our society." She also addresses the killing of her character once more.
"We regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character," the statement reads. "That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show."
