On May 27th, Miles Davis' 90th birthday, jazz pianist Robert Glasper will release a project of eleven Davis covers and tributes called Everything's Beautiful. Today, Glasper joins forces with Phonte and 9th Wonder on "Violets."
"Violets" is inspired by Davis' "Blue in Green," which was also sampled on J Dilla's "Life" -- maybe the deepest instrumental ever. Whereas Dilla just chopped up the original Bill Evans piano, 9th Wonders chops up Glasper's modernized take.
Based on "Violets", the Basquiat-looking cover art, and the general conceit of Everything's Beautiful, the album is gonna be a must-listen for jazz-rap enthusiasts.
