Rihanna will introduce Janet Leigh's character from Psycho in the final season of the show.

There are few characters in film history as iconic as Marion Crane, the female lead in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 masterpiece, Psycho. Because Janet Leigh's original performance is so beloved, casting the role for the final season of Bates Motel, the prequel series based on the film, was surely a taxing process, and today they've announced Leigh's successor to be one of the biggest celebrities in the world, though in music not film.

Rihanna will be taking the role, following acting gigs in Battleship, This Is The End, and Home, personally announcing the big news while at Comic Con.

“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way," executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin said in a conversation with THR. "We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate."

It will be interesting to see how the creators of the show and Rihanna recreate the shower scene from Psycho, which has gone on to become one of the most famous scenes in film history.
