Reese's (the cups not Witherspoon), has created a solution to the problem of the people who give out apples and granola bars at their doors on halloween. It's a vending-machine-sized contraption that ingests the candy you don't want and spits back out what the good people at Reese's assume everyone wants: Reese cups.
According to a Hershey's spokesperson, Reese's is “the #1 Halloween candy (with over half of candy buyers purchasing Reese’s)." As for the problem of people giving out anything other than peanut butter cups: "Reese’s has come up with a solution — give us your unwanted candy, and we’ll give you what you actually want — Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.”
The machine itself seems to work automatically, with two slots: one for dumping your disappointing candy and another for receiving your peanut butter cups, for which the machine has a capacity of 10,000. Beneath the slots is the Reese's logo and their slogan for this little advertising stunt: "Not Sorry." Where the old candy goes is a mystery.
The machine was originally showcased at a parade a few days ago in Tarrytown, New York, but tonight will be stationed in the New York, New York, in Washington Square Park between 4 and 9 pm.
