Post Malone's sophomore album Beerbongs & Bentleys has set a new first-day streaming record on Spotify. The album has shattered the record both globally (78,744,748) and in the U.S. (47,930,039), according to a tweet from Spotify. This puts him ahead of J. Cole's KOD, which set the record in the U.S. just last week with 36,656,086 streams.
Due to the success of the album's pre-release singles, Beerbongs & Bentleys was certified platinum upon release. Lead single "Rockstar" peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100, while second single "Psycho" has peaked at No. 2. "Rockstar" has been certified 5x platinum. It is one of 7 songs to earn platinum or multi-platinum certification. Post's debut album Stoney has been certified double platinum.
The record follows a few chart achievements from Post Malone this year. He became the second rapper (Eminem being the other) to have two singles debut within the top two of the Billboard 200 ("Rockstar" and "Psycho). Earlier this weekend, it was reporting that Stoney had spent the second-most weeks in the top 10 of their R&B/Hip-Hop album chart, tying Whitney Houston's self-titled album.
Given its momentum, Beerbongs & Bentleys will likely debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it the rapper's first project to do so. Stay tuned for official numbers from Billboard next week.
