Southside drops animation for his single "Aint Doin' That."
Southside has added his name to the list of producers moonlighting as rappers. His album Trap Ye 2 showed his versatility in spurts. "Ain't Doin That," a standout on the 20 track album is the latest single to warrant a music video, but not any music video: an animated short. In "Ain't Doin That," transforms each performer into a spud potato, in uneven sequences. The animation team utilizes a seizure-inducing flash technique to propel the narrative forward.
In this instance, the animation does do him good service. Southside performs one of the most unheralded verses of the year on "Ain't Doin That," hiding under the pseudonym Young Sizzle. Southside lets off a barrage of triplets with each line, begging the question why Carti was even selected.
He never stood a chance of sounding proper next to a man with a point to prove. "Hated on the Rollie and I still ain't got time/Geekin' on the lean while them hoes snorting lines," "Nah I'm still the same n****, no wait by the line," all rapped by Southside, definitively expresses a difference between intention and execution from the perspective of a producer turnt rapper.
