Penelope Cruz has finally spoken about one of her collaborators, Harvey Weinstein, a year or so after the sexual harassment allegations against him came to light. The actress, who had worked with him while filming Vicky Cristina Barcelona, was quite careful in her choice of words when discussing the scandal.

Cruz says that their relationship was strictly professional. She claims she was never in any of the awkward situations many other of her entertainment industry colleagues have described.

"Harvey was a complicated person, everyone knew that. We had discussions on a work level but never in other situations, never."

Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan, Lea Seydoux, Rosanna Arquette, Cara Delevingne are all part of a long list of accusers. Salma Hayek, one of Cruz's close friends, is also part of the bunch. According to Hayek, the industry head threatened her with violence when she curved him on the set of her film Frida: he said he would "break my kneecaps."

Salma penned a scathing column against Weinstein for The New York Times last December, a piece that winded her friend Penelope Cruz.

"You can never blame a friend for not telling you in the moment," says Cruz.

Penelope Cruz was "shocked and profoundly sad" when she first heard of all the accusations last year. Weinstein had always been "respectful" to her.
