As any music fan will know, the people behind the scenes in the industry, whether they be songwriters, producers, engineers, or mixers, rarely get the credit they deserve for their work. Spotify's "Secret Genius" awards aim to be a step towards shining a light on the lesser-known figures behind your favorite songs.
The second annual awards are set to take place at November 13th at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Today, the nominees have been announced, and include some important names that work within rap and R&B.
Starrah, is nominated for Songwriter of the Year for her work on Camila Cabello's "Havana," Calvin Harris' "Feels," and Maroon 5's "Lover's Do." These are far from her only credits, contributing to songs from Rihanna ("Needed Me"), Drake ("Fake Love"), Travis Scott ("Pick Up The Phone"), and many more.
Mike Will Made-It and Frank Dukes have been nominated in the Producer of the Year category, WiLL for French Montana and Swae Lee's "Unforgettable" and Kendrick Lamar's "DNA" and Dukes for Camila Cabello's "Havana" and "Never Be The Same," as well as Post Malone's "Better Now."
The hip-hop Secret Genius category features Murda Beatz, Boi 1da, Tank God, Cardo, and Yung Exclusive, while R&B features PartyNextDoor, James Fauntleroy, and more.
