Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange was sentenced to nearly one year in prison after he was found guilty of breaching bail. Assange was taking refuge inside of the Ecuadorean embassy in London for seven years before they revoked his privileges and was subsequently arrested. Assange is serving his sentence inside London’s Belmarsh Prison which has been described as "London's Toughest Prison."
Pamela Anderson, who called on Kanye amid his Trump frenzy to publicly speak against the mistreatment of Assange, became his first visitor in prison earlier today. She was accompanied by Wikileaks editor-in-chief Kristinn Hrafnsson who stood along with the Baywatch actress during a media scrum outside of the prison.
“He does not deserve to be in a supermax prison. He has never committed a violent act. He is an innocent person,” Anderson said. “It was great to see him, but this is just misrule of law in operation. It is absolute shock that he has not been able to get out of his cell. It's been one month, it's going to be a long fight."
She continued, "We just have to keep fighting because it's unfair, he's sacrificed so much to bring the truth out, and we deserve the truth and that's all I can say. I'm sorry, I feel sick, I feel nauseous."
Assange was first taken into the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012 in order to dodge extradition to Sweden in relations to sexual assault allegations. The case was dropped authorities dropped the case in 2017, although authorities are considering reopening the case. However, he's still facing extradition to the U.S.
"I do not wish to surrender myself for extradition for doing journalism that has won many, many awards and protected many people,” Assange after he was asked whether he would comply with being extradited to the United States.
